Celebrate poetry and the power of the written and spoken word by becoming the first Austin Poet Laureate! The inaugural Austin Poet Laureate will act as the official ambassador of the City’s literary arts, fostering community connections through the art of poetry. 

• Applications for the 2025-2027 Poet Laureate position will close on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. 
• All applicants should live and/or work in Austin. For a list of the complete eligibility guidelines, please see the official Poet Laureate guidelines. 
• The City of Austin Poet Laureate Committee will review and evaluate your submitted application based on the following categories: writing; performance and public speaking; community engagement; diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); awards and publications, and ability to plan and execute projects.
• Please consult our Application FAQs prior to completing the application. If you would like help preparing for the application process, the Austin Public Library will be holding two application workshops on the following dates and times: October 17th at 5:30PM (virtual) and November 4th at 6:00 PM (in-person at Austin Central Library). Details about these workshops are posted on the Austin Poet Laureate webpage.
